Today I am talking about one of the finest pieces of art which is used to decorate our home is “Macramé”. Macramé is the knotting technique of textile.

Macramé comes from a 13thcentury Arabic weavers’ word migramah meaning “fringe”. This refers to the decorative fringes on camels and horses which help, amongst other things, to keep the flies off the animal in the hot desert regions of northern Africa.

Most friendship bracelets exchanged among school children and teens are created using this method. While most think of macramé as a craze of the 1970s, the craft reached peak popularity in Victorian England.

After fading in popularity, macramé saw a resurgence in the 1970s. It came to symbolize the Bohemian style and was used to make wall hangings, plant hangers, accessories, and clothing.

The material used in making macramé wall hanging is nylon, silk, cotton, rayon, jute. It measures 13 inches wide and 30 inches long and is made from wool and cotton yarn with metallic ribbon embellishments.

It’s the perfect size to display in a gallery wall or hanging above your favorite reading chair. The knotting cord and knot-bearing cord can change from step to step in a macramé pattern.

For example, when you work the Diagonal Half Hitch (shown in picture), you will have one-knot bearing cord but there will be multiple knotting cords worked one after the other on that same knot-bearing cord.

Conclusion of Macrame Wall Hanging
