Saraswati Puja or Basant Panchami

Saraswati Puja is a traditional ritual culture in Hinduism is done on a special day like the birth of god/goddess or special season coming or by starting new things in life like in weddings or opening of a new venture etc. Because in our Hinduism we always start a new thing with the name of God.

In our temple, we do every morning Aarti and Puja. Puja is a way of offering special guest of Honour to our High Holiness by doing Puja since Vedic period and go on till today.

In Indian Hindu culture there is a special preliminary preparation for the arrival of spring and Hindu people celebrated according to Hindu calendar on 5th day of the month of “MAGHA” called Vasant Panchmi.

This festival also makes the preparation of Holika festival which coming forty days after, the start of season spring. It falls in late January or February. Many people dedicated this day to goddess Saraswati. It is also celebrated as Saraswati Jayanti and offered Saraswati Puja to praise goddess Saraswati.

She has mentioned in Rig-Veda as a goddess, so she has significant value in our Hindu tradition since the Vedic period. Saraswati is the God of knowledge, wisdom, music, and all arts and also called the energy of Brahma. 

Basant Panchami

She symbolizes inventive energy and power altogether its kind, as well as yearning and love. Therefore we see every picture of Saraswati with Veena and Books. So that day in families they sitting with babies and young children, cheer up their children to write the first word with their fingers.

On this special day, people wearing yellow or orange (Kesari) coloured clothes, decorate their house with flower and balloons invite their neighbor and relatives offer ritual vidhi and do aarti to worship Saraswati with full faith.

In Maharashtra, the Newly married couple wear traditional dress and visit the temple to take blessing for the peaceful and loving beginning of their new life on the first mark of after wedding.

In Punjab state they wear yellow turban and welcome the spring. In many north-eastern states and other states like; Odisha, Tripura, Bihar, Uttarakhand, West Bengal people in education institution dedicated whole day to Goddess Saraswati.

In that day from morning to noon starting with prayer and do Havans and Yagnas ( Saraswati Puja ) after that in school they arrange competitions of music, essay writing, traditional dress competition and make that day to worship and praise the dignity of Goddess Saraswati.

Doing Saraswati Puja gives you blessing and unexpected result especially for students because she is a goddess of wisdom, knowledge and all art. A special offering to goddess Saraswati very helpful to succeed in your life.
