“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better” ~ Albert Einstein

Nature and man, from time immemorial, has had a wonderful and sacred relationship. In this fast-paced age where we have no time for apparently anything besides work, least of all for our association with Nature, it’s significant to take some time off from our busy schedules and take a divine holiday towards ourselves for introspection – places like Munnar will surely offer you much more than just a mere holiday.

The “Kashmir of South India”- Munnar is known for its picturesque beauty, magnificent scenery, exotic locations, relaxing emerald-green hues of the well-kept tea valleys, lakes, spices and everything that can satiate tourists hailing from any part of the World.

The name Munnar is believed to mean “three rivers” referring to its location at the confluence of the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. An idyllic and peaceful destination situated 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.

This heaven-like destination offers a multitude of options – if you are looking for a romantic destination, you can straightaway head to the Attukkad Waterfalls, Chinnakanal, Lakkam waterfalls, Echo point, Kundala Lake, Mattupetty lake, Marayoor Sandalwood forests, watch the valley of flowers or visit the rose garden, enjoy the pristine beauty of nature from the top station as the vantage point, or can even spent a night in the treehouse (Erumadam) or take a walk in the lush green, aromatic tea gardens……Munnar has just everything in stock for you!

For the adventure lovers, this place is a true gift as it is conducive for a wide range of activities like hiking, mountain biking, revel in adventure sports, elephant riding at Carmelagiri Elephant park, hiking to the Anamudi Peak, rock climbing, Shikara boat riding, bike riding and what not!

This destination will surely bring out the photographer within you. Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park where you will find yourself greeted by the endangered Nilgiri Thar…..there will be many opportunities and reasons to click pictures.

I can go on and on about Munnar but nothing is an exaggeration. This place provides you with a platter of options. So next time when you pack, let this place be in your mind. It’ll surely not let you down. Bon voyage!
