jeera samba rice has a distinct taste and can be described as having a more ‘starchy’ or ‘corny’ flavor, the grain itself is much harder than the other varieties of rice.

When cooked this rice is less ‘fluffy’ in texture hence gives a more filling meal with a higher calorie value. All Samba rice are harvested in India and there are many sub-varieties ranging in grain size and price.

Jeeraga Samba is the most expensive sub-variety and has the smallest grain, it gets its name for its resemblance to Cumin seeds, also called as Seeragam Jeera in Tamil Nadu. It is approximately a third the size of a grain of basmati rice.

Cultivation of jeera samba rice

Samba rice is grown extensively in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu in Samba season (August – January). This rice is grown for a longer duration compared to other types of rice.

Health Benefit of Jeera Samba Rice

1) Helps in fighting many diseases 

Jeeraga samba rice contains selenium which helps to prevent the cancer of colon and intestine. It has got more fiber and anti-oxidant which helps to remove free radicals from colon and intestine. It also has phytonutrients which help to fight breast cancer, strengthens the heart and also cure arthritis.

2) Helps in lowering cholesterol

The oil in the jeeraga rice reduces cholesterol. It is rich in fiber hence, reduces the LDL cholesterol and increases HDL in the body which help to cure bile diseases and improves the performance of liver.

3) Rich in Fiber

Since it is rich in fiber, it controls the calories in the food and thus stops more intake of food. It also eases digestion and helps to relieve constipation.

4) Maintains body temperature 

This rice is said to maintain body temperature.
