The city is home to the most famous Sri Venkateshwara temple of Tirumala. This beautiful city lies at the foothills of Seshachalam hills of eastern ghats.
In Dravidian translation, TIRU means THE SACRED and PATHI means ABODE or HUSBAND. The history of the city dates back to 5 TH century AD, At that time it was an established center for Vaishnavisam.
After some centuries it started to spread to different parts of the kingdom which were ruled by different rulers. Notable rulers were Krishna Deva Raya, Sada Siva Raya and Thirumala Deva Raya. An interesting fact about Tirumala hills is that it is the second oldest mountain in the world.
