SP Chief Calls for Extension of Maha Kumbh Dates in Uttar Pradesh

**Lucknow, India** — In a recent appeal to the Uttar Pradesh government, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has urged the authorities to consider extending the dates of the Maha Kumbh Mela, citing the need to accommodate the influx of devotees expected to attend the revered religious gathering.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, a significant event in the Hindu religious calendar, draws millions of pilgrims from across the globe. Yadav emphasized that extending the dates would ensure better crowd management and enhance the spiritual experience for attendees.

“Given the anticipated large turnout, it is imperative that we provide adequate time for devotees to participate in the holy rituals without overcrowding,” Yadav stated during a press conference on Monday.

The SP chief’s request comes amid concerns over logistical challenges and the need for enhanced safety measures to manage the vast congregation of people.

The Uttar Pradesh government has yet to respond to Yadav’s proposal, but officials have acknowledged the importance of ensuring a smooth and safe event for all participants.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is scheduled to commence in January next year, with preparations already underway to accommodate the millions expected to attend.
