Silicon Valley Unites to Honor the Martyrdom of Sahibzade
Washington, Dec 30 (PTI) – In a remarkable display of unity, the Sikh and Hindu communities of Silicon Valley gathered to commemorate Veer Sahibzade Balidani Diwas, a tribute to the martyrdom of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh. The event, held on December 26 at the Jain Centre of Greater Sacramento, California, began with a solemn Ardas (Sikh prayer), followed by vibrant stage performances and quizzes that celebrated the rich cultural and religious heritage shared by the communities.
Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen emphasized the significance of such gatherings, stating, “These are meaningful opportunities for our communities to learn from each other. I look forward to continued collaboration fostering unity, faith, and fellowship.” Dr. Bhavin Parikh, Diversity & Inclusion Commissioner for the City of Elk Grove, highlighted the event’s role in strengthening the bond between Hindus and Sikhs, “a bond forged through shared values of justice, resilience, and unshakable faith.”
This marks the second event following the successful Interfaith Unity event held on November 24 at Gurudwara Sant Sagar in Sacramento. Narinderpal Singh Hundal, General Secretary of Gurudwara Sant Sagar, provided an in-depth narration of the Sahibzade’s martyrdom and announced plans for a large-scale commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom anniversary in November 2025.
The youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh, Zorawar Singh (6) and Fateh Singh (9), were martyred by Mughal forces in the 18th century, while the elder sons, Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh, perished in battle at Chamkaur Sahib at ages 18 and 14, respectively. PTI LKJ SCY SCY
