Pant and Jaiswal Steady India’s Chase at Tea on Final Day
Melbourne, Dec 30 (PTI) – In a resilient display of batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant held firm throughout the afternoon session, guiding India to 112/3 at tea on the fifth day of the decisive fourth Test against Australia.
India, who were precariously placed at 33/3 at lunch while pursuing a daunting 340-run target, still require 228 runs to secure an unlikely victory. Jaiswal and Pant, exhibiting commendable composure, were unbeaten on 63 and 28, respectively.
Earlier in the day, India’s top order faltered as Rohit Sharma (9), K L Rahul (0), and Virat Kohli (5) were dismissed in the morning session.
Australia, resuming their innings at 228/9, were bowled out for 234, thanks to a stellar performance by India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/57.
