Melbourne, Dec 30 (PTI) – On the final day of the fourth Test against Australia, India found themselves in a precarious position, struggling at 33 for three at lunch while chasing a daunting target of 340 runs. The Indian batting lineup faced early setbacks with the dismissals of Rohit Sharma (9), K L Rahul (0), and Virat Kohli (5). Notably, Kohli fell to a sharp catch at first slip off Mitchell Starc just before the lunch interval.
Earlier, Australia resumed their innings at 228 for nine and were eventually bowled out for 234. India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, delivered a stellar performance, claiming a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/57. He was well-supported by Mohammed Siraj, who took 3/70, and Ravindra Jadeja, who chipped in with 1/33.
Australia’s tailenders, Nathan Lyon (41 off 55) and Scott Boland (15 not out off 74), managed to add just six runs in the morning session before Bumrah bowled Lyon.
