Chandipur Beach is also called as Hide and Seek Beach for its unique properties. Located around 200km from Bhubaneswar, this lesser-known beach near Balasore village is a mysterious beach that could get you curious. Chandipur beach offers a truly magical experience. Depending on the movement of the moon, the sea waves respond by going back to the seabed for up to 5 km.
This water receding at the beach happens twice a day, during low and high tides. If you stay by the beach long enough, you could see the beach disappearing and then again coming back to the shore after a while. However, the locals here are aware of the time of the high and low tides.
In an IANS report, Anirban Mukherjee, a tourist from West Bengal recalled his experience of the destination as he said, “My wife and I saw the sea disappear in front of our eyes, and we walked in the sea bed, almost for four kilometers, and then returned with the gentle water when the high tide came”.”It was like returning to the sea. The massive void left behind by the waters, the path we took, was soon filled up and it was as if we had walked into the sea. This beach is nothing like the other beaches,” said his wife Arpita.
The waves are not at all aggressive, in fact, they are gentle and welcoming; soothing and relaxing in their beautiful rhythm. You can also choose to ride along the shoreline on a bike or an open jeep. The Chandipur beach is also well known for its proximity to the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Integrated Test Range. Several missiles have been launched from here, including Akash, Agni, Shaurya and Prithvi ballistic missiles. The best time to visit this place is usually November to March.
