New Delhi, Dec 24 (PTI) – An Afghan translator working at the Indian consulate in Jalalabad was injured on Tuesday when unidentified assailants fired at his vehicle, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Although India ceased operations at the consulate over three years ago, several local employees continue to work there.
“Today’s incident involved a local Afghan employee of the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad, Nangarhar Province,” a source mentioned. “The employee sustained minor injuries. India had closed its Jalalabad Consulate back in 2020,” the source added.
New Delhi is in communication with Afghan authorities regarding the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Afghan media identified the injured staff member as Wadood Khan, who was reportedly serving as a translator. Khan had left Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover and moved to India, only to return a few months ago to rejoin the consulate.
