**Chandigarh, India:** The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have strongly criticized the Haryana government for transporting state deportees in what they describe as ‘prison buses’. The opposition parties argue that this method of transportation is both demeaning and inhumane, urging the state authorities to reconsider their approach.
The controversy erupted after images surfaced showing deportees being transported in buses typically used for prisoner transport. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala have both condemned the move, calling it a violation of human dignity.
“The Haryana government must treat its citizens with respect, regardless of their circumstances,” Kejriwal stated in a press release. Surjewala echoed these sentiments, adding, “This is not how we treat our people. The government should be ashamed.”
The Haryana administration, however, defended its actions, stating that the buses were used due to logistical constraints and were the only available means of transport at the time. They assured that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety and comfort of the deportees.
The incident has sparked a broader debate on the treatment of deportees and the responsibilities of state governments in ensuring humane conditions for all citizens.
